Dr Emma Smith
I am a Chartered Doctor of Clinical Psychology with over 15 years of experience working within the NHS, as well as in clinical research, local authority services, NGO (non-governmental organisation) and private practice. Within my NHS role, I work within a multi-centre research trial exploring the effectiveness of a new therapy aimed at supporting individuals with type 1 diabetes.
I am a clinical supervisor to psychologists, and I have significant experience in providing teaching, training and consultancy.
In my private practice I work with adult and adolescent clients who experience a wide range of mental and physical health distress including anxiety, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, work related stress, relationship dynamics, diabetes and other long-term physical health conditions.
I work flexibly and creatively, drawing upon a range of evidence-based psychological therapies, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). I will be striving to provide a safe, containing and compassionate space to support you in exploring your difficulties and helping you work towards your goals.
I am registered with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), which upholds high standards in professional codes of practice, qualification and ongoing training.
