I am a consultant clinical and counselling psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I have over 30 years of experience working as a qualified professional, with 22 of these years being in the NHS. I initially worked as a social worker and social work counsellor in a service for families and children. I then qualified as a clinical and counselling psychologist and have since worked in the NHS. My experience includes Child and Family Services, a charitable organisation providing therapy for individuals and couples, Adult Psychological Therapies Services, Older Adult Psychological Services, Neuropsychology and Mental Health Liaison.
More recently I have stepped down from senior roles in the NHS and I am now focusing on my private practice where I work with adults, but I specialise in couples’ therapy. With couples work my main approach is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT focuses on emotional experience and expression, understanding patterns between you and how they impact, while also aiming to help you listen and become more available to one another. I am a Member of ICEEFT (International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy) and BEFT (British Emotionally Focused Therapy).
I may draw on other approaches if appropriate, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or aspects of mindfulness as well as a psychological understanding of the difficulties you are facing. My couple sessions lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes. Appointments are mainly offered during working hours, but I also have Saturday and evening appointment times specifically for couples.
